A Witnessing is the beginning of the journey. It is both a live sketching of a woman’s pussy and a ritual that allows access to her essence. The space of a witnessing is reverent, safe and sensuously beautiful. Together, the woman and I create an atmosphere that grounds her into her body and conjures that within her which feels most holy. When the woman is ready, I ask her to lie back, spread, and I begin to sketch. While sketching, I ask questions to begin to understand the innate elements of the woman’s nature and the story that she carries. The intention is to receive a transmission of the entirety of who she is, and to facilitate the experience of being completely vulnerable, completely safe, and completely seen.
A Portrait is a transcription of a woman’s essence to concrete form. Portraits are generally larger works, born of a Witnessing. During a Witnessing, I gather as much of the subject as I can - energetically, psychologically, emotionally, verbally and visually. This process carves a channel between me and the woman, such that who she is can come through me and be seen. From this link comes the materialization of her essence and her story, in the painting. Together we tread a sacred landscape born entirely of the woman in that moment in her life. The painting inevitably surprising, delighting, and nudging her into deeper connection with and understanding of herself.
A Reclamation work is a radical act of activism and personal healing. Reclamation works are created with the intention of allowing a woman to reclaim herself, her body and her story from sexual trauma, oppression, or negative experience. Sessions are initiated with a joint creation of a sacred space. Inside this space the woman is encouraged to write or illustrate her story, to find her voice, and to transcribe it to the canvas or paper. Her pussy portrait will then be layered inside of, and emerge from, this potent base. Reclamation Works tend to be highly visceral experiences, as we dig into the cellular memories trapped inside the body and transcribe and seal them into a world of art. Together, we take that which was fragmented, frozen or damaged and turn it into a thing of beauty; we allow it come forth from the body, allow it to be seen. Through the journey of this work we seek to reclaim the profaned, in reverence, for this woman, and women everywhere.
